According to ‘Disabled Discrimination Act (2004) It is a legal requirement that all non-domestic buildings having more than 1 level must provide some form of protection for disabled individuals within the building. It is supposed to be a safe place away from the fire which is protected by some form of fire resistant construction that will then enable the safe evacuation of the disabled persons from the building. It applies to every person who cannot easily make use of the fire escapes during a poternial crisis.

Emergency Voice Communication

According to ‘Regulatory Reform Order,’ for the individuals unable to escape the building, it is imperative to provide a refuge area as well as to provide some form of two-way communication.

It enables emergency services or other individuals to communicate with the persons in the refuge area. Also, Instructions can be given through an emergency voice communication system enabling a safe evacuation of building for fire fighters as well as the disabled persons. It allows fast and effective communication.

Eclipse can supply and install emergency voice communication systems and we are fully all compliant with ‘The Regulatory Reform Order.’

4. Disabled Toilet alarms

Eclipse is expert in designing as well as installing WC Alarms up to British Standards.  These systems let a distressed person to raise an alarm in the event of an emergency.  Also, we commission, monitor and service existing systems and provide reactive callout support for business.

Both disabled as well as non-disabled persons should be able to find and use suitable toilet accommodation as easily as each other. Disabled toilet cubicles are required to be fitted with a suitable WC Alarm, offering the ability to call for assistance when required. The alarms must be waterproof to be fitted in wet rooms or shower cubicles if needed.

The pull cord of alarm needs to be placed within easy reach and operatable from two levels. One access should be near the floor in case someone falls and the second from the ceiling which is freely accessible.  Eclipse designs and installs WC alarms to British Standard BS8300.

How they work

To operate a toilet alarm, the user simply pulls the cord of a ceiling pull unit or presses a call point to activate a light, Help Sign and sounder outside the WC (Toilet).  Help is then alerted providing peace of mind to disabled visitors and staff alike.

Systems installed can include a battery backup facility that will continue to power the system for up to 24 hours in the event of mains failure.
